Wilford Brimley

Executive Decision - 4/5

This movie is a delectable ‘90s action thriller that is criminally overlooked compared to its peers. It has solid action and great tension, everything an action movie needs. The ensemble cast has great chemistry and some of the surprises are downright outstanding.

Closest comparison: It’s like The Rock by way of Air Force One.

Setting: Action
Plot: Action
Tone: Thriller

The Firm (1993) - 3/5

This movie is a pretty standard white collar Orwellian thriller. For the most part the paranoia and unease works well, but one of the sources of tension actually serves to undercut the stakes significantly which does this film no favors. The chase and entrapment scenes are equally exciting, and the ending wraps up most of what it needs to, although the final resolution leaves something to be desired.

Closest comparison: It’s like Enemy of the State by way of A Few Good Men.

Setting: RomCom
Plot: Thriller
Tone: Thriller

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins - 3/5

This movie is not the high action one man army movie that it may seem on the surface. Remo gets the elite training, sure, but he bumbles his way through most of the fights. It’s a campy, fun family B-movie that has enough heart to pull it through the rougher low quality production patches. Some will be turned off of this movie by the white actor playing an old Korean man done up to look and act Chinese, but it’s in the upper half of this film’s well done to poorly done spectrum. And if that sentence doesn’t agree with you, maybe skip this one.

Closest comparison: It’s like Person of Interest by way of The Karate Kid (1984).

Setting: Adventure
Plot: Zero to Hero
Tone: Espionage
